Cosmetic Laser Surgery Costs Vary According To Procedures

Medical technology is always advancing. Laser surgery is cutting edge technology. It is almost non-invasive and avoids the traditional use of scalpels and subsequent pain. Laser surgery was introduced in the 1960’s. It enables surgeons to cut through tissue with nominal bleeding; it is easily maneuvered throughout the body; it is precise in targeting specific tissue such as birthmarks; and, it can modify tissue. It does all of this without making incisions.

Cosmetic laser surgical procedures include: liposuction; varicose vein treatments; skin treatments such as smoothing out wrinkles; tattoo removals; hair removal; and blepharoplasties. Laser surgery is also used in cosmetic dental surgery for teeth contouring and whitening. Cosmetic laser surgery costs will vary according to procedures. For example, a blepharoplasty will be priced differently than skin treatments and/or hair removal.

Variables

There are other variables besides specific procedures that influence pricing in cosmetic laser surgery costs. One such variable is the surgeon himself or herself. Their respective experience, qualifications, reputation all factor into the surgical costs. Obviously a surgeon renowned for his/her results and with years of experience behind them, can impose higher cosmetic laser surgery costs than an up-and-coming surgeon starting out.

The type of laser a surgeon uses also factors in cosmetic laser surgery costs. Lasers that utilize carbon dioxide gas are much more powerful and efficient so when used by a surgeon the procedural costs are higher. However, when a surgeon uses an erbium laser the costs are less. For instance, it would cost a patient one to two thousand dollars more to have their entire face resurfaced with a carbon dioxide laser than it would with an erbium laser.

Payment Options

Unless a patient can substantiate that a cosmetic laser surgical procedure is essential for medical reasons, insurance companies will not consider covering any portion of cosmetic laser surgery costs. Although most cosmetic laser surgery is elective, there are occasional exceptions. Some procedures such as laser liposuction, varicose vein removal, and blepharoplasies can sometimes be considered medically beneficial. Most surgeons will accept cash, major credit cards, and checks to pay for cosmetic laser surgery costs. Some surgeons will widen their scope of potential patients by working with financing companies. Financing companies provide people with the option of having said company fronting the full amount and then paying off their loan in monthly installments.
